HERE. THERE. A WHERE QUESTION. A where look inside the Who What, Where, When, How and Why questions. The Ws and the H. My life’s rules, along with the Bible and U.S. Constitution. I’ve even written a book about the Ws and H, but the book’s not much beyond safety, crime and war subjects, me trying to stay “on theme,” in my traffic lane so to speak. Really though, the Ws and H questions are a spinal cord of life too. And such a broader study of the Ws and H questions by yours truly will just sound like yet another self-help book but this time with a clever cop-question-schtick angle. Ex-cop? Yeah, me. But I am not a psychologist. I can however pontificate a bit on the bigger picture of the “WHERE,” question.
So, what of the bigger WHERE of life? Your life? Your WHERE? There’s the geographic WHERE and mentality-emotional WHERE. Within the mind-WHERE there are two compass points that transcend topography, the “here” and the “there.”
Where exactly is your “here?’
Where exactly is your “there?”
Do you even have a “there?’ Some may not, or not much of one. You know your “there” is your next goal – could be ANY goal really – of where you want to get to. A to B. Here to there.
Then the H question comes in. HOW exactly do I get from “here” to “there?” Oh, and then the pesky WHAT question….what will it take to get from here to there? (You see, you do need ALL the classic “cop questions,”after all!)
Stuck in the here? Can’t avoid the “who” question either. Odds are you are stuck “here” and not heading “there” yet because of who you are. Or aren’t.
We all get stuck. In the big picture here and there. Maybe you, like me, are not meant to launch “way over there,” be like a brain surgeon or a pro football player. Or a millionaire. We all have “THERES” we can’t get to. I understand it takes many types in life to make up a society, a civilization, and I think life is like a gigantic, brilliant genetic spreadsheet, a master plan with big and small cogs-people-us grinding away in small and big parts. A miasma. A lot of your where-situation…is probably just from you being you. And despite impossible there-dreams you still can get to a lot of other possible, reachable “theres” from your “heres.”
You are here. Pick a logical there. The old saying goes, “by the yard life is hard, by the inch, it’s a cinch.” Who, what, where, when, how and why. From the ex-cop perspective – no – you are not under arrest, you are just under arrested development.
